The Job
We are looking for a Maintenance Development Engineer to work in Burton-on-Trent for a recognised engineering company.
Working in an office environment you will be responsible for project execution in two keys areas of train maintenance and development.
The areas are:
Design for supportability – Develops the maintenance strategy for new vehicles at concept/bid phase and then during detail design and build stage.
Maintenance Optimisation – Execute maintenance optimisation projects on new trains and those in service to ensure that LCC’s are equitably balanced between cost, down time and reliability.
Your main duties will include:
Undertake design for maintenance (DFM) work for new or modified rolling stock designs, with the objective of reducing the total maintenance burden and developing accurate and contractually supported commitments
Undertake maintenance optimisation activity on fleets to ensure that life cycle costs are minimised without compromise to train reliability and safety or compromise to occupational safety
Support the development and introduction of new optimisation techniques and strategies
Input into the engineering and fleet modification process ensuring maintenance costs and fleet reliability is protected or enhanced
Provide input to any fleet standardisation initiative
Support services bids using DFM tools and processes to ensure that the maintenance strategy for new trains is optimised
You are required to have the following:
Understanding of maintenance strategies of UK rail fleets and the operational issues in service by those fleets
Understanding of modern maintenance techniques such as condiction based maintenance, reliability centred maintenance and carrying out engineering risk assessments
Ability to communicate effectively
The salary is between £35,000 – £40,000 per annum depending on experience.
You will be working 37 hours per week Monday – Friday.
