Contract M and E Design Manager
Job Description
Due to the successful contract wins on Cross Rail and related projects. My client is looking for an M&E Design Manager with a strong Contractor/Design & Build experienced person
You will be responsible for all aspects of Design within the Rail business, assisting the branch management team to achieve the business and company goals and objectives.
Key Accountabilities:
Lead and develop the Design team, acting as mentor to assist in the process of developing Designers by ‘on-the-job’ coaching, to successfully achieve all agreed goals and objectives relating to the area of Design.
Be fully conversant with the Departmental and Company Method Statements, associated guidance manuals and technical standards/regulations relevant to the Design & Technical Engineering needs of the business.
Manage all Design & Build work throughout the rail team in collaboration with the Contract teams, undertaking Design Reviews and appraisals as necessary. Provide design/technical assessment of all tenders within the rail team, paying particular attention to the technical risk assessment of both traditional and Design & Build projects.
Undertake schematic and detailed design of installations/schemes within the remit of the jobholder’s specialist skill area.
Be conversant with the various Design software packages used throughout the business and company, and when necessary, use them to good effect to carry out design related activities.
Provide technical advice/assistance to queries raised by the project teams, and assist with the re-engineering of pre-designed contracts. Also, conduct design validation visits to installation sites to ensure that installation satisfies design intent, and/or to brief the Departmental Technical Services section in the undertaking of their responsibilities.
Ensure that the company’s SHEQ policies and procedures are constantly adhered to in all aspects of Design.
Participate in the successful assessment of competence and performance monitoring of Designers and Design Consultants/Contractors, agreeing design responsibility at the pre-commencement stage of specific projects.
